Lucio Pozzi (b. 1935) was born in Milan and moved to the United States in 1962 as a guest of the Harvard International Summer Seminar. His first of many exhibitions at Hal Bromm Gallery was in 1976. Though foremost a painter, Pozzi considers writing, drawing, and sculpture to be valuable tools to his art. He has an extensive teaching career as well, having lectured at Cooper Union, Yale Graduate Sculpture Program, Princeton University, and the School of Visual Arts NY. Pozzi currently splits his time between Hudson, NY and Valeggio, Italy. Collections of the New Mexico Museum of Art, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center; the Museum of Modern Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Art Gallery of Ontario; the New York Public Library; the Detroit Institute of Arts; Giuseppe Panza; the Fogg Art Museum; the Herbert and Dorothy Vogel Collection and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

John Franklin Koenig "Waiting for OTA 1, 1961" oli on canvas 80x90cm.

John-Franklin Koenig was an international artist, better known in Europe and Japan than in his native country. Born in Seattle in 1924, he grew up in the Wallingford neighborhood and became interested in art at a young age — particularly the Asian art he found at the Seattle Art Museum. Koenig was drafted into the army in 1943 and fought in Europe until the end of the war. Waiting to return to the U.S., he took a course at the university for American soldiers in Biarritz and fell in love with France and French.

In 1986, John Koenig received the Gold Medal of the City of Paris and was later made a Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters. In 1989, the Paris Arts Center held a retrospective of his work. His paintings and collages have been shown in nearly 150 solo exhibitions around the world and are part of collections in a number of international museums: e.g., the Musè d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Musè National d’Art Modern (Paris); the National Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Western Art (Tokyo); the Musè des Beaux-Arts and Musè d’Art Contemporain (Montreal); the Musè de L’état (Luxembourg); and the Seattle Art Museum.

Ward Dyck "Figuur" brons h.20cm.

De sculpturen van Ward Dijck (1936) ontstaan uit de dialoog met de steen en brons. Zij willen de schoonheid van het naakte materiaal zoveel mogelijk bewaren. De stenen dragen de sporen, de kwetsuren, van de ontginning in zich. De boorgleuven en de breuklijnen met hun scherpe 'croûte' worden in de compositie van de sculptuur geïntegreerd. De beeldhouwer zaagt, kapt en slijpt, maar tracht de primaire vormen te behouden. In de spanning van orde en chaos zoekt hij de eenheid waarin het werk zijn licht opvangt en de tijd zijn schaduwen legt.

Ward Dijck: "Ik wil mijn kunst zo zuiver mogelijk houden: eenvoud, essentie en stilte". Het resultaat is een strakke, minimalistische verstilling, een bevroren gedachte vertaald in een sculptuur.

Jozef Mees "Abstraction 1961" olieverf op paneel 72x60cm.

Jozef Mees is een Belgische beeldend kunstenaar. Hij werd geboren in 1898 in Gent en stierf in 1987 in De Pinte. Deze schilder, architect en binnenhuisarchitect ontvangt zijn opleiding aan de Academie in Gent bij Jean Delvin. Het vroege werk van Jozef Mees is nog steeds animistisch tussen de twee wereldoorlogen. In de jaren veertig schilderde hij monumentale figuren en gestructureerde landschappen. Vanaf 1952 kiest hij resoluut voor het abstracte. In de jaren zestig schuwde hij het gebruik van materie niet. Het werk is kleurrijk en gelaagd. Zijn lavi's zijn frivool en lyrisch. In de jaren 70 evolueert het naar zeer gestructureerde composities.

Finn Pedersen "Figures" Acryl op papier 60x42cm.

Finn Pedersen werd geboren op 4 september 1944 in Klemensker op het eiland Bornholm in Denemarken en overleed op 18 juli 2014.

De schilderijen van Finn Pedersen zijn herkenbaar en raadselachtig. Ze doen op het eerste zicht denken aan de onstuimige agressiviteit van de Cobra-beweging tijdens de jaren 1948-1951. De Cobra-beweging was op zoek naar een nieuw universum en worstelde met de regels van de buitenwereld en de ontwikkeling van de expressionistische schilderkunst. Finn Pedersen leverde een gevecht in het interne universum, met innerlijke demonen in een formidabele coloristische bekwaamheid.

Elke kleur is helder en puur. De kleuren geven elkaar nieuwe energie en vullen elkaar aan. Het ontstaan van nieuwe, onverwachte en mysterieuze verbanden.

Suzanne Thienpont "Lijnen" zand en olieverf op paneel 55x75cm.

Suzanne Thienpont was born in Sint-Maria Horebeke in 1905.

She received her schooling as a painter, graphic designer and tapestry designer at the academy of Brussels (C. Montald) and Ter kameren (G. van de Woestyne). Thienpont then worked in the tapestry atelier of E. de Saedeleer and evolves from painting animated children figures (1934-1950) to wilder compositions that lead her to abstraction.

She finally returns to figuration with long forms (spirals, ellipses) and she incorporates sand and other crystalline material in her paint. Thienpont later worked as a art teacher in Ronse and Oudenaarde.

Exhibited in museums in Brussels and Louvain la Neuve.

Dana Frankfort "DitchDirt 2008" olieverf op paneel 183x183cm.

Dana Frankfort (born 1971, Houston, Texas) is an artist based in Houston and a painting professor at University of Houston. Her work often engages with the history of abstract art and features bright colors, gestural brushwork, and text.

Frankfort earned a BA from Brandeis University and received her MFA in 1997 from Yale School of Art, New Haven. She also attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1997. Frankfort was a Core Fellow at the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1999. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006.

She has shown work internationally in exhibitions including What’s So Funny at Brooklyn Fireproof and The Triumph of Painting at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Her work was included in several exhibitions at The Jewish Museum and her work Star of David (Orange) is part of The Jewish Museum's permanent collection

Miette Emilie Braive "Abstraction" ca.1970 olieverf op paneel 92x65cm.

Miette (Emilie) Braive (1916-2000) België. Zij volgde in België een klassieke schildersopleiding, maar vrijwel direct na haar studie vertrok naar Parijs. Daar nam zij lessen aan de academie van de Franse kunstenaar André L'Hote. De eerste twee decennia werkte zij met André Lhote en exposeerde met hem. Omdat zij nogal klein van stuk was noemde Lhote haar Miette in plaats van Emilie, haar echte naam. Miette betekent letterlijk 'kruimel'. Zij zou voortaan haar schilderijen met Miette signeren. De invloed van L'Hote is altijd zichtbaar gebleven in haar werk; een levendig pallet, met onderwerpen variërend van pure, niet objectieve abstracte, kubistische schilderijen en gouaches.
