A fine quality Empire style mahogany freestanding desk, dating from around 1900, offered by Hutton-Clarke Antiques.
This elegant desk is crafted from rich mahogany and features a beautifully aged, green-tooled leather writing surface, framed by a solid mahogany border. The top shows attractive wear consistent with its age, adding warmth and authenticity to the piece.
The desk is both functional and decorative, offering four drawers with working locks and keys, adorned with ornate brass escutcheons and handles. Additionally, it includes two writing slides that discreetly pull out from either side, providing extra surface space when needed.
True to the Empire style, the desk stands on tapered legs with gilded bronze mounts at the top and cast brass paw feet, showcasing refined neoclassical detailing. The back is fully finished, making this a true freestanding piece, ideal for placement in the centre of a room.
